On February 10, the Hanjiang 120 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEU) electric ship prototype kicked off construction in Yichang, Zhijiang Shengmao Shipyard. The vessel is Hubei province's first battery-powered container vessel.

The Hanjiang 120 TEU vessel, equipped with battery-driven dual propulsion motors, is 84 meters long. It can load 120 twenty-foot equivalent unit containers, with a maximum designed speed of 18 km/h.

The vessel has a one-way range of 175 km and can sail for five consecutive days, which will work to cut fuel consumption and reduce harmful gas emissions.

The ship will be completed in August 2023. After completion, it will be put into operation for the 150 km section from Yangluo Port to Xiantao Port on the Han River, serving shipping needs from Wuhan Yangtze Port to Jingkai Port and other areas.
