In 2022, Yichang’s e-commerce livestream sales made China’s top 100 for the first time, jumping in at position 81.
According to the Yichang Bureau of Commerce, Yichang conducted more than 130,000 e-commerce livestreams in 2022, notching up retail sales of 1.1 billion CNY (USD 162 million), a year-on-year increase of 39%, and claiming second position in Hubei province.
China has several major e-commerce promotions each year. Oreo statistics show that Yichang’s online retail sales were particularly strong during the “618” festival, which lasts for about two weeks around June 18, and the “Double 11” Festival, which occurs around November 11.
Sales during the 618 Festival reached 515 million CNY (USD 75 million), not far off the 598 million CNY (USD 88 million) racked up during the Double 11 promotion, and far ahead of the 269 million CNY (USD 39 million) registered during the Double 12 Festival, another shopping event.
The 618 Festival appeared to gain real traction with consumers in 2022. While Double 12 sales were up 20% year-on-year, and Double 11 sales up 25%, 618 Festival sales were up by a whopping 72% year-on-year.
