Yichang’s GDP hits 81 billion USD in 2022

Yichang achieved a gross domestic product of 550.27 billion yuan (about 81.15 billion U.S. dollars) in 2022, a 5.5% increase year-on-year, according to data from local statistics authorities.

The city’s economy continued to expand. Fixed asset investment was up 19.8%, consumer goods retails sales hit 186.66 billion yuan (about 27.5 billion U.S. dollars) and the value of foreign trade reached 41.47 billion yuan (about 6.1 billion U.S. dollars).

With many of its key industries – such as green chemicals, shipping, clean energy and machinery manufacturing – primed for a good year, Yichang is expecting GDP growth of 7.5% in 2023.

The city has also set goals for other major economic indicators in 2023, including a 16% increase in fixed asset investment, a 12% increase in foreign trade value, and an 11% increase in consumer goods retail sales.

Besides economic growth and growth in residents' income, the city has set itself goals for 2023 in energy conservation, emissions control and environmental protection.
