As the Spring Festival holiday draws to a close, many people are making a return home from their travels, often with heavy luggage full of goods from their hometown.

At Yichang East Railway Station, Mr. Liu is about to embark on a journey to Wanzhou, Chongqing. His bags are filled with hometown specialties that his mother had prepared especially for him earlier. Among the luggage is sausage, cured pig's trotters and bacon.

“These foods always remind me of home,” said Mr. Liu.

Another Mr. Liu carried a bag of sugarcane, peeled and cut into pieces, weighing 10 kilograms. He said that the sugar cane was grown by his parents and that his children loved it.

“In winter, our parents would store the sugarcane in the cellar and wait for us to return and eat it together,” said Mrs. Yang, the wife of Mr. Liu.

In Mrs. Peng's luggage, a bucket of chili sauce stands out. This is a special delicacy that Ms. Peng always brings with her on return trips. For her, the chili sauce in the supermarket is not as good as what her family makes at home.

“For me, the taste of this chili sauce is the taste of home,” said Mrs. Peng.

Suitcases are filled with handmade sausages and preserved meats, home-grown sugarcane, and even homemade chilli sauce. Although these things are seemingly ordinary, they are full of the love and concern of family. Wherever you go, these things can remind you of home.
