Zhao Qiang, a courier, walked into a cozy room at 3 p.m. on the sixth day of the Chinese New Year. He held his hands in front of the heater, warmed his meals in the microwave, and rested on the sofa after working long hours in freezing temperatures.

The service station, nicknamed “Care Station,” is located in the Fujiuyuan Business Area, Wujiagang District, Yichang City. Equipped with books, refrigerators, microwave ovens, water dispensers, rechargeable batteries, free Wi-Fi, intelligent lockers, etc., it offers 24-hour free service for couriers, sanitation works and others who may need it.

It is the first of its kind in Hubei province.

The Yichang City Federation of Trade Unions decided to build the station in September 2022 as it sees a growing demand for outdoor workers who spend hard days and nights building the city into a better place.

Li, a sanitation worker at Fujiuyuan Business Area, said, "we are busy from dawn to dusk, especially during this time of the New Year. It was difficult to find a place to keep us warm. Now the station can protect us from the wind and rain, and provide us with hot water to drink. This brings us so much convenience."

“We plan to expand the functions of the station, offering more services like first-aid drugs, legal advice, mental health care, etc...” said Xiang Liming, executive vice president of Wujiagang District Federation of Trade Unions, “we hope to provide a resting shelter for more outdoor workers.”
