Sales at Yichang’s top 10 commercial complexes jumped more than 11 percent from last year to hit 125 million yuan (US$18.46 million) during the seven-day Spring Festival break, according to the Yichang Municipal Commerce Bureau. Sales figures were nearly 10 percent higher than the figures for 2021, confirming a solid recovery.

To stimulate consumption and rebuild confidence, the Yichang government organized a number of Spring Festival shopping activities, including distributing 20-million yuan worth of discount coupons. Major commercial complexes and supermarkets organized Chinese New Year-themed promotions featuring these coupons in the period January 21-27.

Wanda Plaza in Wujiagang District hosted a food festival together with dragon dance performances, culture shows and doll parades. It chalked up 29 million yuan worth of sales during the holiday, up 17 percent on the same period in 2022.

Sanxia Global Harbor’s Spring Festival Shopping Festival helped it boost sales by more than 14 percent to 9.6 million yuan. Other shopping centers, including the International Trade Building, Grand Ocean Department Store and Wuyue Plaza, held trendy art exhibitions and offered rewards and discounts.

The lively Spring Festival atmosphere gave Yichang people lots to do and savor.
