As the 2023 Spring Festival approaches, the traffic into and through Yichang is rising towards a new peak in recent years.
Yichang Expressway Operation Management Co., Ltd., which manages major expressways and bridges of Yichang, reported on January 18 that the G42 Yichang Badong Expressway had witnessed a pass-through volume of 210,700 vehicles in the first seven days since the Spring Festival travel rush period began on January 7. It is a record high in the past three years.
Including all roads under its management, the total traffic volume in that seven-day period was 694,100 vehicles, 0.95 of a percentage point higher than the previous year.
The company is working closely with other stakeholders, including patrol police, road administration and road assistance to prepare for the expected travel rush and possible poor weather condition.
Workers will separate passenger cars with cargo trucks at expressway entrance, set up emergency response teams and open multiple toll collection windows at expressway exits.
The company has also opened a livestreaming account to provide information online, including how to avoid peak hours of the Spring Festival travel rush, traffic route navigation, real-time road conditions, toll-free days of expressways during Spring Festival and general knowledge of driving emergencies.
The company manages 641.8 km of major roads, including the G42 Yichang-Badong Expressway, Baokang-Yichang Expressway, and Yidu Yangtze River Bridge. All of which are important traffic arteries of national main trunk line, connecting Hubei and Chongqing.
