Yichang’s machinery industry shows its muscle in 2022

In its just-released annual work report, the Yichang government notes that, according to the most recent estimates, the city’s machinery manufacturing output hit the figure of 110 billion (US$16.35 billion) yuan in 2022. Up 20 percent on last year, machinery manufacturing has become – along with green chemicals – the second 100-billion yuan pillar of Yichang industry.
Yichang’s machinery manufacturing companies – such as HXF SAW, Changjiang Machine Technology and Alphapec Instrument – again won national and provincial honors in 2022.
For the first 11 months of 2022, companies in the machinery manufacturing sector notched up an output value of 101.48 billion yuan. Number crunchers are still working on the final figures for the full year but are confident that total output value has breached the 110 billion yuan mark.
Machinery manufacturing in turn drives the development of other industrial segments. Local companies such as Yichang Qifan Cable, Yihua Group Chemical Machine Equipment Manufacturing & Installation, Yichang TGOOD Electric and Yidu Yunji all saw strong growth.
A rising tide lifts all boats. Electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing firms, metal products companies and general/special equipment manufacturers also performed well in 2022.
On the grounds that scientific and technological innovation ensures that a company can have star products throughout the industry chain, Yichang’s machinery manufacturing companies upped their investment in R&D in 2022 by a whopping 73 percent. After the technology centers of Alphapec Instrument and Hubei Huaxin Photoelectric were added to the Provincial Tech Center List in 2022, Yichang now has 45 provincial R&D platforms.
Machinery manufacturing enterprises are also at the forefront of smart, digital transformation.
HXF SAW won the title of “2022 National Technological Innovation Demonstration Enterprise”. Longteng Red Flag Cable, GAC Motor Yichang, Yichang Power Glory Technology and Monkey King Welding Wire were awarded the title of “Provincial Intelligent Manufacturing Demonstration Enterprise”, bringing the number of Yichang firms on the list to seven.
Another four enterprises – Changjiang Machine Technology, Alphapec Instrument, Yichang CSG Display and Yichang Jingwei Textile Machinery – were selected as state-supported "little giants".
Yichang now has six “Chinese Well-known Trademarks”, 161 national high-tech enterprises in the machinery manufacturing sector, and two state-local joint engineering research centers.
With the Year of the Rabbit rounding the corner, Yichang is prioritizing six industries: Smart Green Ships, Automotive & Parts, Green Chemical Equipment, Advanced Environmental Protection, Clean Energy and Specialized Machinery Manufacturing.
