An Yichang cruise ship carrying nearly 300 tourists chugged away from Taipingxi dock at 11am on January 7 after a two-month suspension of cruises due to Covid-19.

Nearly 1,000 tourists bowled up to the Three Gorges tourism cruise line in Yichang’s Yiling District last weekend. Those who weren’t lucky enough to board the graceful, blue-bottomed “Gaoxia Pinghu” vessel had to wait for the next shifts.

Visitors were from both Hubei and neighboring provinces. Most of them had bought tickets online from OTA ticketing, or from Three Gorges Dam windows and travel agencies.

The cruise ship is running three shifts a day, with its operator looking to add more shifts for the Spring Festival holiday when a tourism boom is expected.

The excursion takes tourists to Zigui Relocated New City, which was built for people displaced by the Three Gorges Dam project. They can also visit the relocated hometown of Qu Yuan, one of China’s most famous poets and patriots, and Yinxingtuo New Village, another village for relocated people where the houses have been built in Ming and Qing dynasty style.
