The first freight train of the year along the Yangtze River line rumbled out of Yichang East Railway Station at around 5 pm yesterday and headed to Chongqing and Chengdu.
Known as the “Gateway of the Three Gorges”, Yichang is a key transport link between the Chongqing twin-city economic circle and the Wuhan city cluster.
The train was carrying 1,410 tons of electronic equipment, yeast, and non-woven fabric.
The fast, low-cost Yangtze River line is a key trade route for goods going to and from western cities in Central China’s Hubei Province.
Since the route was launched in July 2020, 58 freight trains carrying more than 52,000 tons of goods have departed from Yichang.
As the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the central region develop, more and more Hubei products are being sold in Sichuan and Chongqing. Transport volume on the line increased by 48.5 percent in 2022.
