The 15th Yichang Xiling Temple Fair opened on Jiefang Road on Saturday, drawing a crowd of more than 110,000 people. The fair was full of different Chinese New Year celebrations including traditional cultural performances, folk craftsmanship shows and spring couplet writing and gifting. Visitors can find goods for the Spring Festival here at the various stands that line the streets.
Temple fair, also known as "temple market,” is a Chinese folk custom, usually held on the Lunar New Year, Lantern Festival and Longtaitou Festival on the second day of the second lunar month. The temple fair is one of the major forms of markets in Chinese history.
Xiling District is the political, cultural and business center of Yichang City, with the world-famous Three Gorges Project headquarter and Gezhouba Water Conservancy Hub Project in the area. The modern version of Xiling Temple Fair had been held 14 times before it was suspended due to COVID control measures in 2021.
This year's Xiling Temple Fair will last until January 17, which will include not only cultural performances, but also a folklore tour, cultural bazaar and Chinese costume parade.
The temple fair brings together more than 10,000 Chinese New Year products from famed shops from all over Yichang. The venue is the ideal place for the public to feel the Spring Festival atmosphere and kick off their preparation for the big celebration.
