The applications of 5G technology are advancing rapidly in Yichang City with 12,573 5G base stations already installed. The technology has covered 10 key areas, including industrial internet, remote health care and smart logistics.

Ten typical applications for this new technology were announced at the 2022 China 5G+ Industrial Internet Conference - Yangtze River Economic Belt Digital Intelligence Green Development Forum held in Yichang on November 20.

Yichang’s Angel Yeast is among one of the top 10 5G industrial use cases in Hubei Province, which was announced at the conference.

Angel Yeast is a national key high-tech company with both the largest production scale and market share of yeast in China and more broadly, Asia as a whole.

The company has used this industrial 5G technology to connect people, machines, and systems to build a new manufacturing and service system, covering the entirety of the industrial and value chain.

In Angel Yeast’s plant, finished products are labeled with a QR code containing name, product batch number, shelf life and other information allowing each product to be traced. The factory’s robotic arm can then scan the QR code to identify the product’s production batch and shipment quantity information.

With the ultra-short delay and real-time transmission enabled by a 5G wireless signal, the robotic arms have much higher accuracy in their operations.

After Angie Yeast applied this solution for the quality tracking process in yeast production, their efficiency was increased by 80 percent, the network maintenance cost was reduced by 75 percent, and the product yield rate was increased to 98 percent.

In recent years, China has built more than 2.2 million 5G base stations. Businesses have developed more than 4,000 5G+ Industrial Internet projects.
