Yichang soft drink fans can now get locally made Pepsi.

PepsiCo Yichang beverage factory began production on November 16 at the Bio-Industrial Park in the Yichang High-Tech Industry Development Zone. The drinks company’s automated production line can churn out up to 500,000 tons of Pepsi beverages a year.

Hubei is a major market for PepsiCo's beverage business in China. One of the company’s 23 beverage production bases on the Chinese mainland is in Wuhan. Established in 1996, its sales network covers all Hubei cities, counties and towns with more than 30,000 people.

China is the world’s largest soft drink market on both a volume and value basis.

PepsiCo’s Yichang factory is the second production base in Hubei, and also the first Pepsi production base not located in a provincial capital. The new factory means that supplies will no longer need to be dispatched from Sichuan and Chongqing and allow Pepsi to better service local needs.

PepsiCo was one of the first US businesses to enter China during the period of reform and opening up, with its first factory bottling plant contract signed in Shenzhen in 1981. In the year to 30 September 2022, PepsiCo's global net revenue reached US$83.6 billion, up 9 percent year-on-year.
