Ode to the Yangtze River: Poetic Journey through Yichang - Ouyang Xiu (Part 1)

The Yangtze River Basin is a region of great significance to the development of ancient Chinese poetry.
Yichang, a city along the river, boasts a long history and rich cultural heritage. It is the hometown of Qu Yuan (c. 340 BC - 278 BC) and Wang Zhaojun (born c. 50 BC), and has inspired many renowned poets and writers throughout history.
The video series "Ode to the Yangtze River: Poetic Journey through Yichang" explores the landscape and culture of Yichang as part of the greater Yangtze River Basin.
The focus of Episode 1 is Ouyang Xiu (1007-1072), a famous Chinese statesman, essayist, poet, and historian of the Song Dynasty.
Ouyang Xiu once served as a county magistrate (head of county) of Yiling (present-day Yichang), where he composed numerous poems. Ouyang Xiu (Part 1) tells his story with Yichang and his transformation from a state of depression to one of renewed optimism.
