The first low-voltage, large-capacity pure electric transport ship charging station in Yichang was completed on April 9. It will serve electric ships along the 176-km route between the Xingshan and Zhijiang phosphate mines.

The Ningtong Port electric ship charging station features an 800 kVA box transformer that converts 10 kV AC power into the DC power supply needed by ships.

Yidu Ningtong Port has constructed seven high-pile bulk berths, spanning 600 mu (40 hectares), and has achieved a water transport throughput capacity of 10 million tons per year.

The charging station can meet the charging needs of electric ships transporting phosphate mines from Xiakou Port to Yidu Port, said Li Xingheng, head of shore power operation and maintenance of the State Grid Yichang Power Supply Company.

After putting into use, the charging station is expected to charge 200 ships and 200,000 kWh per year, replacing 47 tons of fuel and reducing harmful gas emissions by 148 tons.
