The Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High-Speed Railway, also known as the Yangtze River High-speed Railway, connects six provinces: Shanghai, Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei, Chongqing, and Sichuan. This railway is a key element of China's "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" high-speed railway network.

Covering 170,000 square meters, Yichangbei Station will be the largest station on the newly constructed Wuhan-Yichang section of the Shanghai-Chongqing-Rongshan high-speed railway. Its size is more than three times that of Yichang East Station, the city’s only passenger railway station.

Yichangbei features nine platforms and 20 lines, with a peak capacity of over 5,000 passengers at the same time and an hourly sending capacity of up to 2,942 people.

By now, 85 percent of the overall construction of the exterior curtain wall and decorative works have been completed, along with 95 percent of the electrical and mechanical installation.

Once operational, the new station will reduce travel time between Yichang and Wuhan to just one hour.
