Calling for Submission of Qu Yuan Cultural Documents, Materials and Other Objects
Yichang, Hubei Province, is the hometown of Qu Yuan (c. 340 BC – 278 BC), one of the greatest patriotic poets and politicians from ancient China. In 2021, the Yichang Municipal People's Government and the Institute of Literature at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) jointly set up the Institute of Qu Yuan Culture. Their mission is to eternalize Qu as a cultural landmark of Yichang and make the city the source of authentic interpretations of his work. This will also serve to make Yichang the promotional event hub of Qu’s cultural heritage. The Institute is being built with the purpose of becoming a cultural exchange and planning center for the transmission and promotion of Qu’s heritage both nationally and globally.
The Institute of Qu Yuan Culture is now calling for any format of documents and materials from all over the world. This includes any physical objects, texts, pictures, audio clips, videos and digital resources, under the theme of Qu Yuan’s cultural heritage preservation, research and interpretation, inheritance and innovation, literary and artistic creation, exchange communication and value realization.
The Institute is now accepting submissions in the following two ways:
1. Donations or entrusted management from citizens, legal persons and other social organizations. A certificate of receipt will be issued and the donor’s information will be displayed during exhibitions as well as in books and reference materials. The donor is also invited to participate in important activities of the Institute, and the information will be recorded in the Institute’s list of high honor. For donations of large amounts or particularly high value, a public donation ceremony will be organized.
2. Purchase by the Institute. If the holder has an intention to sell, the Institute will organize an expert panel to screen and evaluate the objects. They will then issue a report on its source, degree of damage, research and economic value, and submit it for approval for purchasing.
