Yichang fishery authority released 4.1 million fish fries into the Huangbai River on March 28, marking the first restocking effort of 2025. The release included rare species like the Chinese longsnout catfish and Chinese sucker, alongside economically valuable fish such as silver carp, bighead carp, and white Amur bream.

The Huangbai River, a first-class tributary on the north bank of the Yangtze River, flows into the Yangtze upstream of the Gezhouba Dam.

“This initiative will help restore the ecological balance of the Yangtze River section between Three Gorges Dam and Gezhouba Dam, while improving fish resource diversity,” said Yi Xianchao, Deputy Captain of the Fisheries and Aquatic Products Law Enforcement Team under Yichang’s Agricultural Comprehensive Law Enforcement Brigade.

Fish restocking plays a crucial role in preserving aquatic biodiversity. Over the years, Yichang has released over 200,000 Chinese suckers and more than 100 million economic fish fries, including black carp, grass carp, silver carp and bighead carp, into the Yangtze River. These sustained efforts have significantly enhanced the amount of fishery resources.
