Sturgeon Valley in Yichang boosts caviar production for global markets

As China's largest land-based sturgeon farm, Hubei Qingjiang Sturgeon Valley in Yidu, Yichang is increasing caviar production to meet rising demand from European and Middle Eastern markets.

Home to 1.1 million sturgeons, Sturgeon Valley leads in advanced aquaculture technologies and plays a key role in Yichang’s integrated sturgeon industry chain.

Yichang hosts 24 sturgeon farms and 9 processing companies, with 2024 projections exceeding 10,000 tons of biomass and 180 tons of caviar production.
In 2016, the city enhanced water quality by removing net cages, transitioning to modern, sustainable land-based farming practices.

China Qingjiang (Yidu) Sturgeon Valley, the production base for Hubei Qingjiang Sturgeon Valley Special Fisheries Co., Ltd. located in Yidu, is is the world’s largest indoor sturgeon breeding facility, housing over 1.1 million sturgeons.
