A shipment of silver jewelry departed from Yichang Sanxia International Airport on Flight QW6191 at 10:57 a.m. yesterday, bound for Bangkok, Thailand. This marks Western Hubei’s first-ever international cargo operation, making Yichang the third city in the province to offer such services.

"Local one-stop customs clearance has cut transit times by over 65 percent and significantly reduced costs," said Li Cheng, CFO of Yichang Lixin Jewelry Technology Co., Ltd. The company exports to Southeast Asia, Europe, and North America but previously relied on costly road transport or slow ocean freight, which risked cargo damage from multiple handling.

As the primary airport serving western Hubei, western Hunan, and eastern Chongqing, Yichang Sanxia International Airport is ramping up operations. Since the resumption of expanded international flights in September 2023, cargo throughput has surged 270.8 percent in 2024, reaching 16,921.3 tons.

Construction of a new international cargo terminal began in May 2024, featuring an 8,250-square-meter secured area and a 2,255-square-meter warehouse, designed to handle 40,000 tons annually.

Airport officials are planning to expand international freight routes beyond the Bangkok service, though details are still under review. This development underscores central China's growing connectivity with global markets.
