The track-laying for the Wuhan-Yichang section of the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High-Speed Railway was recently completed, paving the way for its expected opening by year-end.
This 313-kilometer section in Hubei Province connects Wuhan to Yichang at speeds of up to 350 km/h and includes eight stations: Hankou (existing), Hanchuan North, Tianmen, Jingshan South, Zhongxiang South, Jingmen West, Dangyang West, and Yichang North. Bridges and tunnels comprise 85 percent of the route.

Once operational, travel time between Yichang and Wuhan will decrease from two hours to approximately one hour.

The Wuhan-Yichang section connects the Hefei-Wuhan section to the east and the Yichang-Fuling section to the west. It will link with other high-speed rail lines at the Wuhan hub, including the Hefei-Wuhan and Wuhan-Jiujiang railways, and connect to the Zhengzhou-Chongqing High-Speed Railway via the under-construction Yichang-Xingshan High-Speed Railway.Once operational, travel time between Yichang and Wuhan will decrease from two hours to approximately one hour.
