The track-laying for the Wuhan-Yichang section of the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High-Speed Railway was recently completed, paving the way for its expected opening by year-end.

This 313-kilometer section in Hubei Province connects Wuhan to Yichang at speeds of up to 350 km/h and includes eight stations: Hankou (existing), Hanchuan North, Tianmen, Jingshan South, Zhongxiang South, Jingmen West, Dangyang West, and Yichang North. Bridges and tunnels comprise 85 percent of the route.

The Wuhan-Yichang section connects the Hefei-Wuhan section to the east and the Yichang-Fuling section to the west. It will link with other high-speed rail lines at the Wuhan hub, including the Hefei-Wuhan and Wuhan-Jiujiang railways, and connect to the Zhengzhou-Chongqing High-Speed Railway via the under-construction Yichang-Xingshan High-Speed Railway.

Once operational, travel time between Yichang and Wuhan will decrease from two hours to approximately one hour.
