Construction is in full swing on a smart warehouse for the navel orange industry in Zigui County, Yichang City. Hubei Qugu International Agricultural Group has invested over 53 million yuan (US$7.28 million) in the project, which is slated for completion by mid-June.

Qugu International, whose main business is focused around fresh oranges and citrus products, is extending its existing smart warehouse to accommodate processed navel orange goods. Covering an area of almost 3,000 square meters and standing nearly 25 meters high, the facility will feature 7,900 storage slots and a total capacity of over 10,000 tons, with an annual processing capability of 150,000 tons.
Equipped with robotics and automated guiding vehicles, the warehouse will streamline sorting, transportation, loading and inventory management. These smart devices will significantly boost efficiency and reduce labor demands.

Once operational, the facility will store over 100 types of navel orange products, including canned fruits and orange wines.
Zigui County is one of China’s main production areas for oranges, producing fresh navel oranges year-round. The county has a total navel orange planting area of 26,667 hectares, yielding approximately 1 million tons annually.
