Yichang Sanxia International Airport transported 393,000 passengers during the 40-day Spring Festival travel rush.

The airport operated 119 international flights, a year-on-year increase of nearly 57 percent. The number of international inbound and outbound passengers was 13,900, a year-on-year increase of 13 percent, with foreign travelers making up about 60 percent of that number.

During this period, popular travel destinations included Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Kunming, Qingdao and Xi'an, with an average passenger load factor of 83.2 percent.

The airport also increased the frequency of flights to popular cities. Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu and Kunming all had two or more flights per day, with over 318 temporary flights added.

From January 31 to February 7, daily passenger flow exceeded 10,000.

Many young Yichang natives working away from home brought their parents to the city where they work to celebrate the Chinese New Year. During the Spring Festival travel rush, the number of elderly passengers flying to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen increased by 15 percent compared to last year.

With airfares falling from the peak levels seen during the Spring Festival rush, now is a good time to consider traveling to cities which have already entered the Spring season. Inquiries for tickets to cities such as Hangzhou, Yangzhou and Xuzhou have surged.

In the future, the airport plans to continue adding routes to hubs such as Beijing and Shanghai, as well as to Haikou, Guiyang, Fuzhou and other popular travel destinations. In addition, it will resume flights to Xiamen, Sanya and Nantong with more in planning.000
