The Sanxia apple-persimmon

The Sanxia apple-persimmon is a hybrid fruit with the taste of an apple and shape of a persimmon. Developed by a team led by Professor Luo Zhengrong of Huazhong Agricultural University in 2015, the new species has reaped its biggest harvest this year totaling 200 tons, 40% more than last year, thanks to an increasing planting area and more fruit-bearing trees. “Sanxia” means Three Gorges, which is near Yichang city, Hubei province.
