The project began in October 2024 with a total investment of 308 million yuan (US$ 42 million). Located in the Lianghekou Gorge, Xingshan Couty, it is one of the key water conservancy projects in Hubei Province.

As a fully man-made waterway, the reservoir is primarily designed to improve agricultural irrigation in surrounding areas. It will also aid in flood prevention, disaster mitigation and ecological restoration, although it has no electricity generation capability.

"More than 100 people and over 60 sets of equipment are actively engaged on the job site. The main construction will be completed this year," said Ye Wubin, the project manager.

The entire project is expected for completion in 2027. Once finished, it will provide drinking water for 31,000 residents in Zhenzi and Huangliang towns of Xingshan County and be able to irrigate more than 670 hectares of farmland.
