Three Gorges Hub throughput reaches new heights in January

The Three Gorges Hub set a new record of monthly throughput in January as the volume reached 13.7 million tons, a 3.56 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Passenger traffic also reached new heights, with nearly 7,800 travelers, marking a 274.8 percent year-on-year surge.

The Three Gorges ship lock played a significant role in this achievement, handling over 13.5 million tons, a 6.13 percent increase from the previous year and a record for the period.

The Three Gorges Dam is a crucial component of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, facilitating efficient shipping and supporting high-quality development. Total cargo throughput via the Three Gorges Hub reached 159 million tons in 2024. The Yangtze River is expected to retain its title as the world's busiest interior waterway, with port cargo throughput expected to have reached a record 4.02 billion tons in 2024 once final reports are released.
