Foreign trade reaches nearly 50 billion yuan in 2024

Yichang's foreign trade amounted to 49.81 billion yuan (US$6.83 billion), up 13.4 percent year-on-year, with exports accounting for 40.03 billion yuan and imports for the remaining 9.78 billion yuan.

Within this period, Yichang's general trade imports and exports reached 43.18 billion yuan, almost 19 percent higher than 2023.



The foreign trade value contributed by the city's private companies reached 37.21 billion yuan, up 14.3 percent year-on-year, accounting for 74.7 percent of the city's total. State-owned enterprises generated 8.14 billion yuan, and foreign-invested enterprises accounted for 4.46 billion yuan.

ASEAN emerged as Yichang's top trading partner, with trade totaling 11.79 billion yuan, up 49.5 percent. The European Union and the United States followed, with trade volumes of 5.16 billion yuan (up 19.9 percent) and 4.76 billion yuan (up 52.6 percent), respectively.

Additionally, trade volume with countries along the Belt and Road initiative reached 27.6 billion yuan, while its imports and exports volume with other Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) members reached 17.76 billion yuan, both showing significant year-on-year increases.

Key exports included electromechanical products, labor-intensive products and agricultural products. On the import side, major categories include agricultural products, electromechanical products and metal ore, with agricultural imports up 161.6 percent.
