As one of the first historical and cultural blocks in Hubei Province, the block along the Yangtze River has a rich history. Established as a business district in 1877, it is one of Yichang's earliest commercial streets, reflecting the city's development and urban transformation.

It contains many landmark historical and cultural buildings, including the British Consulate, Taikoo Ship Company, Catholic Church, Osaka Warehouse, Post Lane complex and Manyi Building.

In 2021, the Yichang government initiated a protection and transformation project for this block, focusing on restoring its original character while introducing modern elements.

New business formats and business models such as cafes, bakeries, bars, art venues, and creative spaces have been introduced to promote the integrated development of culture, commerce and tourism.
