The last batch of 50,000 cans of caviar was packed and shipped on January 20, marking the completion of a 3-ton order from European clients by Yichang's largest caviar producer.
Hubei Qingjiang Sturgeon Valley Special Fisheries Co., Ltd. signed the contract at the start of the year. The size of the order required the company to mobilize over one hundred of its workers for the delivery. In the caviar processing workshop, employees coordinated effectively, completing the 15-step process for producing canned caviar, which includes egg retrieval, washing, curing, and packaging.
"In 2024, our company achieved significant growth in caviar sales on both domestic and international markets. Domestic sales increased by more than 70 percent, while international sales grew by over 30 percent. The total production and sales of caviar has surpassed 100 tons, with projected revenues potentially exceeding 400 million yuan (US$55.4 million),” said Ji Jianyi, general manager of Hubei Qingjiang Sturgeon Valley Special Fisheries Co., Ltd.
“Since January 1, 2025, we have been fully booked by orders every day. Given our current capacity, it is reasonable to expect that our production and sales will surpass 150 tons this year," Ji added.
China Qingjiang (Yidu) Sturgeon Valley, the production base for Hubei Qingjiang Sturgeon Valley Special Fisheries Co., Ltd. in Yidu, is the world’s largest indoor sturgeon breeding facility, housing over 1.1 million mature sturgeons. Its caviar exports account for nearly 30 percent of China’s total export volume.
