Yichang exported 270,300 tons of fresh citrus in 2024, increasing 5.7 percent from the previous year.

Yichang is one of the main citrus producing areas in China. It added nine citrus export companies and cooperatives last year, pushing the total number to 38.

Products from Yichang are exported through ports including Khorgos, Manzhouli, and Dandong to countries like Russia, Canada, the Philippines and North Korea.

With a year-round citrus supply, Yichang meets the unique demands of different overseas markets. The city now has 34 orchards and 27 packaging factories involved in the export business.

In recent years, Yichang has capitalized on opportunities to expand into overseas markets. The city has hosted over 20 citrus promotional events in Manzhouli, Khorgas and other domestic cities as well as foreign countries, such as the United Arab Emirates. Besides traditional export markets in Russia and Central Asia, Yichang oranges have found ways to enter new destinations like India and North Korea. Southeast Asia has also risen quickly to account for 20 to 30 percent of the city’s total citrus exports.
