Construction is underway on the Xiangyang-Yichang Expressway, specifically the first segment of the Yichang section in Yuan’an.
This segment spans 10.6 kilometers, featuring five tunnels, three bridges, and nine roadbeds. Workers have excavated 5,000 meters of tunnels to date.
Building the tunnels presents challenges due to complex geological conditions and hazardous gases. To address these issues, the project employs a geological forecasting system along with a gas monitoring and alarm system that provides real-time data to ensure a safe worksite.
“If the gas concentration exceeds 0.5 percent, the system will issue an alert and notify all people,” said Wei Yazhou, the project's safety director.
Meanwhile, construction is also ongoing for the Dangyang-Songzi Expressway. The northern bridge tower of the Zhijiang Yangtze River Bridge, a key component of the project, has entered its final phase.
