Construction begins on new Yangtze River bridge

Construction of the Shazhenxi Yangtze River Bridge began on December 4 with the drilling of the first pile foundation for the north tower. The bridge is a vital component of the Fangxian Wufeng Expressway, situated in Zigui County, Yichang City.

The Shazhenxi Yangtze River Bridge is a dual-tower, single-span box girder suspension bridge with a main span of 968 meters. The north tower stands at 205.4 meters in height, while the south tower reaches 223.4 meters.

The Fangxian Wufeng Expressway connects major tourist destinations in China, including the Yangtze River, Qing River, and Han River, as well as the Wudang Mountains, Shennongjia Forestry District, and Wuling Mountains.

With a design speed of 80 km/h, the expressway links the crucial transportation arteries of the Shanghai-Chengdu and Shanghai-Chongqing Expressways.
