Winter swimming event kicks off in Yichang

The 9th Yangtze River Winter Swimming Race took place last Saturday at Shuangting Square in Yichang, attracting 1,000 winter swimming enthusiasts who braved the 8℃ weather to showcase their skills in the river.


The event featured a 1.5-kilometer crossing race, starting from Yanyingyuan Beach on the west bank and finishing at Shuangting Square on the east bank. Additionally, there was a 1.2-kilometer experience swim along the east bank, beginning at Zhenjiang Pavilion and also concluding at Shuangting Square.
 
Sun Li from Jinan, Shandong Province, won first place in the men's 18-50 age group of the crossing race. Lan Zhuohong from Jilin City, Jilin Province, claimed victory in the women's 18-50 age group.

Sun Dage, from Wuhan and a first-time participant, won the men's crossing race in the 50-65 age group. “After the race, volunteers gave us towels, hot ginger soup, and local food. Yichang is beautiful with stunning night views. I plan to explore the city for a couple of days,” he said.

Xue Limin, also from Wuhan, won the women's 50-65 age group.

Swimming across the Yangtze River is a popular winter sport in Yichang. The Yichang Winter Swimming Association has over 1,000 members, with the oldest swimmer at 86 and the youngest at 12.
