Yichang City has completed its first biodiversity survey, which was initiated in October 2023. A total of 1881 species were documented in its territory, including 937 species of terrestrial vascular plants, 28 species of mammals, 133 species of birds, 15 species of amphibians, 25 species of reptiles, 461 species of insects, 153 species of freshwater organisms and 129 species of macrofungi. This City is the first city to carry out such a biodiversity survey in Hubei Province.  One hundred twenty-six sampling routes, 74 sampling sites, and several infrared cameras are set in place for data collection. The data and information gathered will facilitate the development of a species database for this area and further promote its biodiversity conservation and sustainable use in the near future.
