Foreign trade grows 4.4% in first 10 months

Yichang's foreign trade value reached 36.1 billion yuan (US$4.98 billion) in the first 10 months of this year, a 4.4 percent year-on-year increase. Exports totaled 27.85 billion yuan, a decline of 6.1 percent, while imports surged to 8.24 billion yuan, marking an increase of 68.3 percent.


General trade accounted for 30.06 billion yuan of the total, a 6.7 percent increase, representing 83.3 percent of the city's foreign trade.

Private companies were the main contributors to this growth, completing 26.29 billion yuan in foreign trade, a year-on-year increase of 4.9 percent, and accounting for 72.8 percent of the total value.

Yichang's top three trading partners were ASEAN, with 7.74 billion yuan in trade (up 29.7 percent), the EU at 3.99 billion yuan (up 13.4 percent), and the United States at 3.2 billion yuan (up 25.2 percent). Additionally, trade with Belt and Road Initiative countries reached 18.81 billion yuan, while trade with other RCEP members totaled 12.32 billion yuan, both showing year-on-year increases.

Among the top exported product categories, electromechanical products led with 4.72 billion yuan, followed by labor-intensive products at 2.94 billion yuan and agricultural products at 2.92 billion yuan. On the import side, agricultural products (1.82 billion yuan, up 275.3 percent), electromechanical products (1.36 billion yuan, up 59 percent), and metal ores (660 million yuan, up 412.2 percent) dominated imports.
