As the peak autumn-winter sowing season arrives, Dangyang is seizing the favorable weather conditions to plant their winter wheat. At the expansive 10,000-acre Caobuhu Town wheat demonstration farm, farmer Zhao Xiong is utilizing a BeiDou satellite-navigated tractor to operate a precision planter, streamlining the wheat sowing process.

"BeiDou's unmanned driving technology significantly reduces labor intensity and maximizes land utilization, ensuring precise sowing without gaps or overlaps," Zhao explains.

The tractor's BeiDou-assisted driving system guarantees an accurate, straight-line operation and minimizes deviations. This technological advancement not only enhances seeding accuracy but also helps lower costs.

"This planter integrates plowing, seeding, furrowing, and pressurizing into a single operation, boosting efficiency and precision," notes Xing Hansheng, Chairman of the Chujiahu Grain Professional Cooperative.

Precision sowing machines, equipped with advanced laser radar and sensor technology, intelligently adjust seeding based on real-time soil moisture levels and the speed of the machine, transforming traditional farm machinery into smart tools. This technology increases planting density, reduces seeding errors from 5cm to less than 2.5cm, and promotes effective tillering.

“The output can be increased by more than 10% compared with conventional methods. The precision can be controlled to more than 98%. Cost reduction and efficiency increase per mu for the cooperative can reach 150 yuan,” Xing said. “It gives full play to the advantages of farmland and maximizes the land utilization rate.”

This innovative approach promotes the adoption of intelligent machinery and expands the coverage of high-quality seeds, bolstering national food security. Seed coating techniques protect against pests and diseases, strengthening wheat seedlings and laying the groundwork for higher yields.
