Yuan’an County’s foreign trade has steadily grown in recent years, with a total volume reaching 1 billion yuan (US$140 million) this year.

The growth is largely driven by strong export performance. At Hubei Xianming Ecological Agriculture Co., Ltd., workers loaded boxes of dried shiitake mushrooms onto trucks for export to Vietnam.

"This shipment for our Vietnamese clients weighs approximately 24 tons and is valued at 1.9 million yuan," said Chen Xianming, the company's general manager. He noted that the high quality, nutritional value, and distinctive taste of the dried mushrooms have made them popular with overseas buyers.

Hubei Xianming specializes in the production, processing, and export of dried shiitake mushrooms and black fungus. Since launching its export business in 2019, the company has seen consistent growth in sales.

Chen reported that in 2022 and 2023, the company exported an average of 1,700 to 1,800 tons annually, generating revenues of 150 million to 160 million yuan. This year, exports have reached markets including Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore, with plans to explore opportunities in India, the United States, and Australia next year.

Zhou Ji, head of the foreign trade division at the county's Science and Information Technology Bureau, said they have organized eight local companies to participate in 16 exhibitions. Additionally, these companies visited seven international chambers of commerce and economic institutions in Hong Kong and Macau, connecting with 48 potential foreign clients with intended orders exceeding 200 million yuan.

Currently, the county is home to 12 companies engaged in foreign trade across various sectors, including agriculture and chemicals.
