The 2024 ICF Dragon Boat World Cup will begin tomorrow and run through October 27 in Yichang’s Zigui County, as announced by the city government at a press conference on October 22.
The Yichang municipal government's Information Office holds a press conference to introduce the detailed schedule of the 2024 Dragon Boat World Cup.

This year's competition features 18 events, including dragon boat races in 8-seater and 10-seater boats. Seventeen teams from 14 countries and regions, totaling around 430 athletes, will compete in 200m, 500m, and 2,000m races. The event serves as a qualifier for the World Games 2025 in Chengdu, with the top two teams qualifying based on total points.

The 8-seater boat race was held during both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 games as an exhibition sport on the sidelines. This World Cup is expected to boost the sport’s influence, paving the way for dragon boat racing to become an Olympic sport.

Organized by the International Canoe Federation, this is the second year in a row for this top-tier event in the world of dragon boat racing to be held in Yichang.
Last year, the 2023 ICF Dragon Boat World Cup was held in Zigui, Yichang, with racing taking place on the backdrop of the iconic Three Gorges Dam.

The opening ceremony on October 25 at 8:30 am will combine traditional rituals with intangible cultural heritage performances, showcasing the charm of Chinese culture. During the event, Yichang has plans to host various musical performances and cultural activities for visitors.
