Valley project eligible for financial support

An eco-environment-oriented development project around Yichang’s Zhilan Valley has passed the Ministry of Ecology and Environment’s evaluation process and is now eligible for national financial support.
The project is located in the Three Gorges Reservoir area around Zhilan Valley, which is circled by the G348 National Highway, Zhimao Highway and Jiuxi Creek. The area is at the highest elevation in northeast Zigui County, with an altitude of about 1,300 meters.
The investment required for the project is 1.489 billion yuan (US$2.1 million). It includes four components, i.e., the ecological restoration of Zhilan Valley area, the comprehensive improvement of the rural environment, the development of ecological tourism and recreation in Zhilan Valley Scenic Area, and the building of a rural revitalization demonstration area.
The project currently has no fixed timetable.
It will adopt an innovative Eco-environment-oriented Development mode which leverages the investment in ecological restoration to boost local economic development.
The project has just passed the evaluation of the ministry and is now included in the potential project pool. This means that with the central government’s endorsement, it will be easier to attract private capital investment and loans from financial institutions.
After the project is completed, the local ecological protection infrastructure will be improved, and the aqua environment in the Three Gorges reservoir area will be greatly enhanced.
