National Day holiday boosts tourism and drives consumption

This year’s National Day holiday brought with it a significant increase to tourism and consumption for Yichang.

The city’s top 11 commercial complexes racked up sales of nearly 217 million yuan (US$30.66 million), up 1.4 percent compared with the same period in 2023, according to the Yichang Commerce Bureau.

The city’s retailers held more than 40 commercial promotions from October 1 through 7. The Yichang Commerce Bureau released a consumer guide for the National Day break and distributed 1.5 million yuan of consumption vouchers across two rounds.

Meanwhile, the city's major scenic spots were lively with visitors. More than 50 attractions and hotels organized various activities to attract customers during the holiday.

Yichang Sanxia International Airport carried 67,500 passengers over the holiday period, with the highest single-day passenger flow occurring on October 6.

The Three Gorges Waterfall Scenic Area attracted 106,000 tourists, an increase of 12 percent over the same period in 2023.

The musical "Three Gorges Eternal Love" sold out 18 performances on October 3 and 4, setting a new box office record at Sanxia Romance Park.
