Yichang's e-commerce sector grew 22.1 percent in the first seven months of this year when compared to the previous.

From January to July 2024, online retail sales for Yichang's 465 key trade enterprises reached a total of 5.76 billion yuan (US$812.33 million), as reported by the Yichang Bureau of Commerce.

From January to August, 84 new e-commerce companies were established in the city, bringing the total number to 260.

Sellers promote Yichang’s oranges, peaches and pears via livestreaming.

With the rise of e-commerce, many sellers host livestreams from fields, farms or processing facilities to promote the local agricultural products.

In Dangyang, while hosts broadcasted from livestreaming rooms, workers in the next door warehouse immediately fulfilled orders of anything from fish mint to Shuanglian chicken.

Liu Yali, section chief of the e-commerce department of the Yichang Bureau of Commerce, said they plan to enhance the city's e-commerce sector by establishing 100 new key enterprises, hosting more training programs and organizing exchanges among companies within this industry.
