Three Gorges ship locks handle more than 100 million tons of cargo

As of September 3, more than 100 million tons of cargo had passed through the Three Gorges ship locks since the beginning of 2024, marking the 11th consecutive year of achieving this milestone.
According to the Three Gorges Navigation Authority, 24,000 vessels have so far passed through the locks this year.

The Three Gorges ship locks are the world's largest and most technically complex inland waterway ship locks, serving as a crucial hydraulic navigation facility on the Yangtze River.

Through a series of technological innovations, the Three Gorges Group have extended the number of days suitable for ships passing through the locks. Additionally, they have shortened the time it takes for ships to pass through the locks, improving overall throughput capacity.
Earlier this year, the Three Gorges ship locks completed the upgrade on the industrial control system of the north line locks.
