Yiling District is expediting the transition from fuel trucks to new energy heavy trucks.

At the charging station in Yinjiaping Village, the new energy heavy trucks, identified by green license plates, are recharging their batteries. These trucks do not release exhaust fumes and operate at significantly lower noise levels compared to fuel trucks.

Tang Shunbao, a driver from Yihua Group, said: "New energy heavy trucks are more comfortable, safer, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly compared to traditional fuel trucks. Fuel trucks cost 2.6 yuan (US$0.36) per kilometer, whereas new energy trucks only cost 1 yuan. This means savings of 400 yuan per trip."

Chen Mingzhi, deputy director of Zhangcunping Power Supply Office at State Grid Yichang Power Supply Company, explained: "This charging station has 24 charging posts, each equipped with two charging guns. It takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour to fully charge a vehicle. Up to 48 new energy heavy trucks can be charged simultaneously."

Chen Mingzhi and a staff member of the charging station check the operational status of the charging equipment.

In December of last year, Yihua Group put 30 new energy heavy trucks into operation. These trucks were primarily used for transporting phosphate ore between Yiling and Xiaoting districts. Since then, the number of new energy heavy trucks has continued to increase.

"We currently have 90 new energy heavy trucks, and we plan to add another 90 in October. By next year, we anticipate having approximately 500 new energy heavy trucks," said Meng Yong, the head of Yihua Group's Ansa Logistics Company's new energy center.

Yichang Power Supply Company of State Grid and Yihua Group Ansa Logistics have collaborated to build two new charging stations for heavy trucks. One is located in Yinjiaping Village in Yiling District, and the other is in Yunchi Village in Xiaoting District.

To date, the cumulative charging volume at the Yinjiaping Village station has reached 1.3 million kWh, resulting in a reduction of nearly 1,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

Currently, there are 2,200 fuel phosphorus ore transport trucks in Yiling District, consuming 46.2 million liters of fuel annually.

If all of these trucks were replaced with new energy trucks, it would lead to a reduction of 121,400 tons of carbon dioxide emissions and 157 tons of sulfur dioxide emissions per year.
