The cargo throughput at Yichang Sanxia International Airport has reached 10,021 tons as of August 20, marking a 462% year-on-year increase since the beginning of 2024. This is the first time the airport has surpassed a record of 10,000-ton annual cargo throughput.
The airport utilizes the lower deck of a passenger aircraft for transporting belly cargo.
Last December, the airport expanded its cargo transportation operations by launching its first regular all-cargo flight route from Yichang to Zhengzhou. This initiative resolved the issue of limited bellyhold capacity on passenger aircraft and introduced a fast logistics channel to the Three Gorges region along the Yangtze River.

Yichang-made exports transported by air include agricultural and sideline products, food additives, packaging materials, canned foods, and chemical products. The imports primarily consist of daily necessities and food, according to an official from the airport's logistics company.
