The Yangtze River Rare Plant Research Institute has saved 1,950 endangered plant species from the Three Gorges area. In total, over 57,000 rare and endangered plants have been reintroduced along the Yangtze River.

The culture bottles contain rare plants, including adiantum nelumboides, plantago fengdouensis, and myricaria laxiflora.

On August 15, nearly 10,000 bottles of tissue-cultured seedlings, including adiantum nelumboides, plantago fengdouensis, and myricaria laxiflora, were observed by reporters in the laboratory of the institute, which is affiliated with the China Three Gorges Corporation.

The myricaria laxiflora, a nationally protected wild plant classified as a Level II species, is native to the riparian zones and river islands of the Three Gorges area. It plays a vital role in restoring the local ecological environment due to its ability to tolerate floods, resist droughts, and thrive in poor soil conditions. This plant plays a crucial role in restoring the local ecological environment.

Researchers at the institute, including Zhu Haofei, have mastered the asexual reproduction technology for myricaria laxiflora. They have achieved rapid large-scale propagation of the plant through processes like disinfection, cultivation, seedling development, and transplanting. The reintroduced myricaria laxiflora plants had undergone stress resistance tests before being returned to the wild to aid in ecological restoration along the Yangtze River.

Li Linbao, another researcher, said that the institute had expanded the population of various rare plants for use in ecological management of riparian zones, reintroduction in the wild, and display purposes using propagation methods such as division, tissue culture, seeding, and cuttings.

Over the years, the institute has cultivated more than 260,000 unique and rare seedlings, including over 35,000 seedlings of plantago fengdouensis and Buxus ichangensis.
