According to the Yichang Municipal Postal Administration, Yichang City has been designated as a National Postal and Express Delivery Hub City.
According to a guideline issued by the State Post Bureau and eight other departments, 30 national postal and express delivery hubs will be established by 2027, and further expanded to 80 by 2035, making Yichang a crucial node in the national postal express delivery network.
As a primary transportation hub in the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River, the city’s postal industry has developed rapidly. In the first half of this year, the city's postal delivery volume reached 148.10 million items, up 44 percent year-on-year; express delivery volume reached 122.17 million items, up 58 percent year-on-year.
In 2023, Yichang sent out 145 million express parcels, generating 1.18 billion yuan (US$164.23 million) in revenue. All 1,319 administrative villages in the city were fully covered by express delivery companies. Last year, 28 million navel oranges and 23 million tangerines were delivered through the postal system. The city's Express into the Factory project has connected 75 courier services with 41 major factories and agricultural clients, facilitating 61.09 million shipments, saving approximately 96 million yuan.
