The Changyang alpine vegetable tasting event was held in Huoshaoping Town on Monday. This year alpine vegetable sales are expected to reach 15 million yuan (US$2.1 million), according to the Changyang Agriculture and Rural Bureau.
Experts attending the event introduced and promoted new technologies and exchanged views on the development of China’s high-altitude vegetable industry.
In 2023, Changyang cooperated with NATREGRO, a company from Zhejiang Province, to build the "Changyang alpine vegetables" brand.
On July 18, Changyang signed numerous contracts with several vegetable distributors during a trade fair in Hangzhou, totaling 15,000 tonnes of alpine vegetables.
Changyang Tujia Autonomous County is well known as China’s home of alpine vegetable cultivation. By the end of 2023, the cultivated area of alpine vegetables had reached 20,000 hectares, with an annual output of 1.2 million tonnes.
These vegetables are sold across Shanghai, Hangzhou, Changsha, and other regions, and are particularly popular among consumers.
In 2024, Changyang is expected to generate nearly 15 million yuan from the alpine vegetable industry alone, benefiting roughly 35,000 local farmers.
