Ports along the Yangtze River trunk line handled 2.26 billion tons of cargo in the first seven months of this year, up 4.3 percent year-on-year, according to the Changjiang River Administration of Navigational Affairs under the Ministry of Transportation. Container throughput has reached 15.22 million TEUs, up 3.4 percent, and container rail-water intermodal transportation is currently at 360,000 TEUs, up 21.0 percent.

The Yangtze River trunk line runs 2,838 km from Shuifu in Yunnan Province to the estuary of the Yangtze River. It passes through seven provinces and two municipalities, i.e., (from upstream to downstream) Yunnan, Sichuan, Chongqing, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Anhui, Jiangsu and Shanghai.
