Yichang's retail sales exceeded 95 billion yuan (over US$13 billion) from January to June, a 6.1 percent increase year-on-year.

During the first half of the year, Yichang hosted over 160 consumption-boosting events, such as the Yichang Fatty Fish Festival and the Online Spring Tea Festival. These events involved more than 12,000 companies and generated around 3.4 billion yuan in sales.

At Yichang's second annual Fatty Fish Festival in June, a 3-meter-diameter wok was used to cook fish for thousands of customers. Specialty restaurants saw an increase in customers looking to enjoy local cuisine.

As a major tourism destination in China, tourists play a significant role in driving local consumption. Han Qingfeng, general manager of the popular restaurant brand Tribe of Bachu Catering in Yichang, reported a 20 percent increase in customer flow since the start of summer vacation.

Vehicle and home appliance trade-ins resulted in sales of 250 million yuan, and 65 exhibitions generated over 500 million yuan during this period.

Additionally, Yichang issued consumption vouchers that stimulated 854 million yuan in sales during the first half of the year.

Yichang has been recognized as one of Douyin's top 100 cities for e-commerce transactions in China. The city's online retail sales reached nearly 4.8 billion yuan, a growth of over 20 percent from January to June.

More international brands have established businesses in Yichang. The first Tesla Center in Hubei Province, outside of Wuhan, began operating in Yichang's Wujiagang District in January, and a new Wyndham Garden Hotel opened in April.
