On August 5, the Baijiao Family Farm in Yiling District, Yichang, opened its doors for peach picking. Mr. Zhang, accompanied by his son, drove several kilometers to reach the farm. "These peaches are delicious, and the orchard's scenic beauty is truly worth the journey," he remarked after sampling his freshly picked peaches.

Baijiao Family Farm has transformed into a popular destination by organizing fruit-picking excursions. According to Wang Yujiao, the farm's owner, they have employed eco-friendly practices to cultivate Baiyu peaches. Wang predicts a yield of at least 35,000 kilograms from their 40 mu (2.67 hectares) peach orchard this year, amounting to around 10,000 yuan (US$1,392) per mu.

The popularity of Baijiao Family Farm showcases the healthy growth of Yichang's small fruit industry. Yichang has developed a five-year plan to cultivate distinctive, high-quality, branded small fruits in areas once occupied by manufacturing industries, while still promoting the advancement of its citrus industry.

Currently, over 60 percent of the limited industrial middle-mountain areas have been dedicated to small fruit cultivation. With an area exceeding 200,000 mu, the annual yield surpasses 300,000 tons and generates a comprehensive revenue of more than 4 billion yuan, greatly diversifying local farmers' income opportunities.

Yichang's citrus industry has become a large-scale operation with a complete industrial chain. The ripening cycles of small fruits complement those of citrus fruits, ensuring a year-round supply of fresh produce.

Yichang's small fruit industry has experienced robust growth thanks to its superior ecological setting and unique natural conditions. The city now boasts over 100 varieties of small fruits, including red kiwi, yellow peach, sand pear, crisp plum, and grape. Additionally, other services related to small fruits, such as fruit-picking trips, rural life experiences, and farmers' B&Bs, have flourished.
